El objetivo de este trabajo fue conocer la estructura, esquemas cognitivos de base (ECB) y dimensiones de las representaciones sociales (RS) de la Democracia en varios contextos iberoamericanos. Las muestras fueron de conveniencia, conformadas por estudiantes universitarios de 5 países iberoamericanos: Colombia, El Salvador, Argentina, Perú y España, quienes respondieron a una tarea de asociación de palabras con el término “Democracia” y de identificación de los ECB. Los resultados muestran un núcleo central sobre la Democracia constituido por “Libertad”, “Justicia”, “Igualdad” y “Derecho”. Según los ECB, la Democracia fue un tema más central para la muestra de El Salvador, y menos para la de Perú. L’objectif de ce travail était de connaître la structure, les schémas cognitifs de base (SCB) et les dimensions des représentations sociales (RS) de la Démocratie dans plusieurs contextes latino-américains. Les échantillons étaient non aléatoires, avec des étudiants universitaires de 5 pays d›Amérique Latine: la Colombie, l´El Salvador, l’Argentine, le Pérou et l’Espagne. Les participants ont répondu à une tâche d’association de mots avec le terme «démocratie» et d’identification des SCB. Les résultats montrent un oyau central constitué de «liberté», «justice», «égalité» et «loi». Selon les SCB, la Démocratie était un sujet plus central pour l›échantillon d›El Salvador, et moins pour le Pérou. O objetivo deste trabalho foi conhecer a estrutura, os esquemas cognitivos básicos (SCB) e as dimensões das representações sociais (RS) da Democracia em vários contextos latino-americanos. As amostras foram não aleatórias, com estudantes universitários de 5 países da América Latina: Colômbia, El Salvador, Argentina, Peru e Espanha. Os participantes responderam a uma tarefa de associar palavras ao termo “Democracia” e identificar SCBs. Os resultados mostram um núcleo central que consiste em “liberdade”, “justiça”, “igualdade” e “lei”. Segundo os SCBs, a Democracia era um assunto mais central para a amostra de El Salvador e menos para o Peru.
