Case of report: We present the case of a patient who came to the oral and maxillofacial surgery office due to the accidental introduction of a mini orthodontic screw into the maxillary sinus; a tomographic evaluation was requested, determining the thickening of the Schneider membrane and the presence of the foreign body inside it. The Caldwell-Luc surgical technique was performed and the mini screw was located and removed. Subsequent complications were pain on touch and paresthesia; a laser therapy with photobiomodulation was performed, and both pain and paresthesia were resolved. Conclusion: One year after surgery, the patient was asymptomatic and without paresthesia, the control tomography verified absence of Schneider's membrane thickening and permeable anatomical repairs of the left maxillary sinus. |

Introducción: Los mini tornillos son dispositivos que se utilizan para optimizar el anclaje en ortodoncia, y son fijados en la estructura ósea. Reporte de caso: Se presenta el caso de una paciente que recurre a la consulta de cirugía oral y maxilofacial por introducción accidental de un mini tornillo ortodóntico al seno maxilar; se le solicitó una evaluación tomográfica, determinándose el engrosamiento de la membrana de schneider y la presencia del cuerpo extraño en su interior. Se le realizó la técnica quirúrgica de Caldwll-Luc y se pudo ubicar y extraer el mini tornillo. Las complicaciones posteriores fueron dolor a la palpación y parestesia; una terapia de laser con fotobiomodulación fue realizada, y tanto el dolor como la parestesia fueron resueltas. Conclusión: Al año de la cirugía, la paciente se encontraba asintomática y sin parestesia, la tomografía de control verificó ausencia de engrosamiento de la membrana de Schneider y reparos anatómicos del seno maxilar izquierdo permeables.
