La experiencia pedagógica que se describe en este artículo es la aplicación práctica del desarrollo de una infraestructura de red multimedia con una arquitectura que interconecta tres centros europeos a través de redes en banda ancha. Este entorno ha permitido que grupos bilingües de alumnos de la Universidad de Cambridge, del Instituto Nacional de Telecomunicaciones de París y de La Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros de Telecomunicación de Madrid realicen tareas diseñadas para el aprendizaje de inglés, francés y español a través de trabajo cooperativo, utilizando vídeo y audioconferencia, correo electrónico y recursos de audio y vídeo de calidad. El objetivo de este trabajo es describir esta experiencia y sus resultados, así como verificar hasta qué punto el uso de un sistema multimedia combinado con el enfoque basado en tareas es apropiado para el aprendizaje de lenguas y de qué modo puede ayudar a mejorar la comunicación en inglés entre nuestros estudiantes.
