La karstificación de las calizas ooides subyacentes del Jurásico Medio daría origen a cavidades kársticas grandes y profundas. La aparición inusual de materiales de las ya mencionadas edades se explica por la deposición local de sedimentos pelágicos y crinoideos en las cavidades kársticas más profundas sumergidas justo después de la subida del nivel del mar iniciada en el Calloviense, en un entorno no deposicional e incluso erosivo.
