The accounting inputs are basic in determining the situation and results of a company. The Balance Sheet shows the accounting equation (assets = liabilities + equity) at a certain date, while the Income Statement, allows to analyze the efficiency in the use of resources over a period of time. This information is historical and allows comparisons and trends over time. As a principle, accounting reports everything in monetary terms. Other financial statements are: Statement of Changes in Equity and Cash Flow (International Accounting Standards Board, 2012). The business financing granted by financial institutions, to which Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) go, is qualified through the analysis of qualitative and quantitative aspects (Carrillo, 2010). For the latter, the accounting reports are summarized in the financial statements for at least the last three periods. The financing is granted, among other factors, by the reliability of the historical information as well as the future projections of the business. In the local context, the structure of the accounting function in SMEs is limited and does not meet the minimum information requirements with criteria of objectivity and timeliness. Discipline in the carrying of accounting records is done for tax purposes but not for analysis and decision making in financial aspects. When seeking financing, companies are faced with serious information limitations that have an impact on the approval of lines of credit. 2550-679X http://repositorio.pucesa.edu.ec/handle/123456789/2206
