La prevención, como una herramienta de trabajo más, e integramos la prevención en la organización de su trabajo diario, estaremos más cerca del objetivo final, que no es otro que el de garantizar la seguridad y salud de los trabajadores. En este sentido consideramos que es una tarea primordial medir y cuantificar, con la mayor fiabilidad posible, los indicadores de riesgo que inciden sobre la seguridad y salud de los trabajadores, primordialmente en materia de riesgos psicosociales, que es el objetivo de esta guía. Nos vamos a encontrar grandes dificultades, debidas, por un lado, a la complejidad y multi-causalidad de los riesgos psicosociales y, por otro, a que existe, además de una influencia cuantitativa, una gran influencia de factores cualitativos de diversa naturaleza, lo que complicará su estudio, análisis y aplicación, a diferencia de lo que puede ocurrir con otros riesgos relacionados con la seguridad e higiene en el trabajo, cuya relación causa-efecto-prevención, pueda resultar más evidente. Así pues, con el trasfondo de que las características personales van a influir en la incidencia de los riesgos psicosociales sobre la persona, hemos de evitar caer en la idea, muy extendida en el colectivo empresarial de que los riesgos psicosociales son un problema individual, que sólo se puede abordar persona a persona, una vez que el trabajador sufre sus consecuencias.
