Se determinaron los Índices de diversidad, uniformidad, similitud, dominancia y riqueza la abundancia estimada y la densidad media de la abundancia en dos estaciones en el embalse Arenal, Guanacaste, Costa Rica entre abril de 1984 y abril de 1985. Los resultados indican que Melaniris chagresi (86.93 % ) y Poecilio gillii (6.11 % ), son las especies más abundantes del total de captura (15.941 peces) para todo el período de estudio. El índice de diversidad de Shannon-Weaver, fue de 0.32 para la estación de Campamento y de 0.31 para Sangregado. El análisis estadístico para los diferentes índices muestra que no hay diferencias significativas entre ambas estaciones al 5 % de error.
