Walter Benjamin denunciou o declínio das narrativas, da “arte de narrar” e seu impacto de empobrecimento da experiência humana. Nesse trabalho articulamos dados empíricos e teóricos para analisar o status que vem sendo atribuído às narrativas nos processos de inventário e patrimonialização empreendidos na atualidade, refletindo sobre sua adequação e possíveis impactos na salvaguarda dos bens de natureza imaterial, a partir das considerações de Benjamin. Dirigimos nossa atenção às expressões culturais categorizadas como Celebrações, e tomamos como caso de estudo a Folia de Reis.
